A still is a one-frame video.
Crop to the picture
Trim the status bar, captions bar and app buttons. What is left should be the frame of the video itself.
We search the frame
The image goes to Google's web image index and comes back as exact copies, pages that show it, and visually similar frames.
Open the pages
Unlock to get each URL and page title. The pages that carry the video are where you watch it — and see who posted it and when.
One screenshot is not a monthly plan.
You want to know where one picture came from, once. A subscription for that is the model built on people forgetting to cancel.

Search a screenshot free →Can you find a video from just a screenshot?
Often, if the video was posted publicly and the frame you captured is distinctive. We search the screenshot in Google's web image index; pages that carry that frame — the video itself, reposts, articles — come back as matches.
Why didn't my screenshot find anything?
Usually one of three things: the screenshot includes a lot of app interface around the frame, the moment is generic (a dark frame, a face in close-up), or the video was never posted where Google indexes it. A different moment, or the video file itself, gives the search more to work with.
Is a screenshot as good as the video?
No. A video gives us up to 24 distinct frames to search; a screenshot gives one. If you have the clip or its link, use that.
Do you identify the people in the screenshot?
No. Retrace matches the image itself against pages on the web. It does not do face recognition and does not tell you who someone is.
Can I buy a Trace for a screenshot?
No — a Trace is the frame-by-frame pass over a video, and a screenshot only has one frame, which the free scan already searched.
