[ 01 ] HOW IT TRACES AN ANIMAL CLIP

Skip the repost, read the real caption.

01

Give us the repost

The version you saw is fine, music and captions included. Uploading the file covers the whole clip; a link covers its first ~5 seconds.

02

We search the frames

Up to 24 distinctive frames are searched visually across the web, so a crop or a new caption bar still leaves plenty to match on.

03

Compare the captions

Open the matches. A guide, photographer or channel often names the place and the animal. Compare what they say with the caption that went viral.

[ 02 ] THE MODEL WE REFUSE

Checking one clip should not need a plan.

Wondering whether an animal video is real is an occasional question. A monthly subscription is the wrong shape for it.

$0.90 a search, a wallet from $1.90 that never expires, and nothing that renews. If a search finds nothing, half its price comes back.

How do I find the original of an animal video?

Upload the clip or a screenshot of a clear moment. We search its frames visually across the web and list the pages carrying the same footage. Look for an upload from a guide, photographer or channel that names the place, then compare dates on the pages yourself.

Can Retrace tell me if an animal video is real or AI?

No — it does not detect AI or editing. What it can do is show whether the same footage is on other pages. A credible, earlier source with a plain caption is real evidence about where the clip comes from; no matches at all proves nothing either way.

Why does the caption on the viral version differ from the source?

Reposters often swap the place, the animal or the story to get more views. That is why reading the caption on the pages that carry the same footage is worth it.

Why do some results show a different animal?

Wildlife clips look alike: savanna, water, a big cat in tall grass. Each match is labelled exact or visually similar and shows how many frames agree. An exact match on several frames is the one to trust.

Will it find clips from private accounts?

No. It only sees public pages that search engines have indexed — not private accounts, deleted posts or unindexed content.
